Even with the price of oil, and our aching checkbooks, we've both been whining about the state of the studio. Well, I have been whining. And Kyle's been whining about me whining.
This past weekend was a blur for me. I worked Saturday and Sunday as a photo and lighting assistant, so I wasn't home AT ALL. Kyle decided it would be the perfect time to start working on the floors! WOO HOO!
I did manage to take some before pictures of the studio before the work got started. Here we go:

As you can see, the room is pretty bare bones to begin with. No paint, no finished floor, no shelves. But it does have lots of closets...4 of them! I have heard rumors of thick brown shag carpeting being the flooring du jour of the former owner. It was all over the house. Every room. And they supposedly ripped it all up and "finished" the floors to get the place ready to sell. I use quotes because the job they did sucked and we had to come in and re-finish all the floors anyway. All the rooms throughout the house are wood flooring except for the studio. We haven't decided why quite yet. There are a couple of theories go around. But instead of a nice oak floor in here...some kind of masonite was nailed down. And it quickly started to warp in places, and in the high traffic areas it was actually starting to disintegrate and track dust all over the house. Saturday morning Kyle drove on over to Home Depot and purchased some unfinished white oak and got the party started!
That'd be my Dad in the white t-shirt. I guess he was bitten by the party animal too. But I came home to hammering and sawing and the smell of wood. It. Was. Awesome.
They didn't manage to finish the room...three closets and the nook/alcove area to the left of the door remain. Once Kyle gets home tonight we are going to try and bang out some more. This is all in a race against the clock! We have a guest coming to stay this weekend (my dear girlie-Q Gretchen)! We've taken up residence in the guest room since ours is packed to the gills with all the crap from the studio. It's a race to Saturday...Will we prevail or will the studio claim victory?
